VRFocus- Even without the release of a consumer head-mounted display (HMD), there are a good number of unique virtual reality (VR) experiences out there. Developers have been busy creating everything from immersive videogames to films that put audiences in the middle of the action. Recently France-based creative agency Backlight Studio launched one of the most unusual VR experiences yet in Birdy King Land. This surreal CGI adventure is currently free to download for use with the Oculus Rift PC HMD.

VRFocus- This week sees Techland launch its anticipated first-person zombie action title, Dying Light in both retail and digital stores in the USA and digitally in Europe. The videogame, which sees players free running through an open-world environment while fighting back hordes of zombies, is hoping to include support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) on PC at some point in the future. This came as something of a surprise when it was announced in late 2014 but, according to the developer itself, was a 'no brainer' to include.

VRFocus- Virtual reality (VR) has already been applied to a wide range of videogame genres, but tower defence titles remain untouched. However indie developer Alien Space Technologies is looking to change that with its upcoming sci-fi experience, Save The Universe. The title, which features full support for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), has this week launched a Steam Greenlight campaign seeking enough positive votes to be approved for sale on Valves digital store come full release.

VRFocus- The 2014 Game Developers Conference (GDC) last March proved to be a significant event for virtual reality (VR). Not only did Oculus VR reveal the next iteration of its development kit for the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD), the DK2, but Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced its own VR HMD for PlayStation 4, Project Morpheus. With that in mind theres hope that this years event, which takes place on 2nd 6th March, will prove to be even bigger for the technology. It certainly seems as if SCE will be bringing VR to the event to at least some degree.

VRFocus- When Oculus VR purchased hand-tracking company Nimble VR in late 2014 it provided a big hint about where the company was placing its bets with the future of input for virtual reality (VR) experiences. The acquisition suggests that this is the route it is taking for interacting with the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD). Despite this, it appears that neither Nimble VR nor Oculus VR-owned 3D model company 13th Labs work will be visible in the first consumer version (CV1) of the Oculus Rift. In fact, it may even miss out on the second and third iterations.

VRFocus- Its been a while since the virtual reality (VR) community has heard from The Assembly, the first-person adventure title heading to the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) on PC and Project Morpheus HMD on PlayStation 4. The videogame was announced at E3 2014 but, aside from a few appearances at VR meetups, hasnt really been seen since. However the developer has recently assured VRFocus that the title is very much alive and kicking and could potentially be making an appearance in the near future.
